We currently send out a monthly newsletter but we would like to avoid overlapping with the content of newsletter produced by other organisation (most notably UNDP Capacity-Net). So what is the specific role that the LenCD newsletter should play, compared with the roles of other newsletters? I would really like input from the LenCD community on what you think the LenCD newsletter ought to be about.
Here is my suggestion: I think the LenCD newsletter should be guided by the general principle that LenCD is about participation and learning, and therefore should concentrate on the following, in order of importance:
Invitations to participate in, or requests to comment on, projects that are carried out under the banner of LenCD by the network as a collective, such as the "working group" initiatives (developing a learning package, managing for results, knowledge management) and the upcoming "12 points to Busan" projects. Most importantly these are invitations to participate, not merely announcements of activities.
"CD Insights": a presentation of a recent case story each month with specific lessons arising from it, written so that people can directly learn from it.
Invitations from organisations working on capacity development to participate in or comment on specific initiatives that they are undertaking. Again, this should be invitations to participate, not merely announcements of activities, but where point (1) is about collective activities under the banner of LenCD, this point is about activities of individual organisations.
Announcements of new publications related to LenCD's "closing the learning loop" mission, i.e. publications that present new evidence, lessons, or guidance on capacity development.
What do you think the LenCD newsletter should contain? Equally important, what should it NOT contain?
