The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), was set up by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA). It is based in Accra, and was registered in 2005. It has the following mandate:
- To strengthen the institutional and operational capacities of civil society organisations in West Africa to enhance their efficiency, effectiveness, and promote their sustainability; and
- To promote and facilitate strategic partnerships between CSOs, Governments and the Private Sector in pursuit of democracy, good governance and sustainable development in the sub region.
It achieves this through training, research and facilitating policy engagement.
What we can contribute:
- Provide a link to WACSI's wide network of civil society organizations and actors in West Africa, and other parts of Africa
- Provide access to WACSI's expert database
- Provide WACSI's resources (toolkits, manuals, research publications etc.)
- Share knowledge and experience on capacity development within the West Africa sub-region
- Provide a platform for other capacity development experts to share their knowledge and experience, and transfer their skills in West Africa
What we are looking for:
- Resources (tool kits, manuals and research publications etc,) mainly on institutional and operational capacity development for civil society
- Learn from the experiences of other that have a special focus in this field of capacity development especially for civil society
- Participation in forums and discussions that focus on how to build a strong capacity development program and organization and related matters
- Opportunities for training on capacity development that will benefit WACSI staff and build in-house capacity
- Access to and/or information on capacity development experts in other parts of Africa especially, and other parts of the world generally
Where we work:
WACSI has the mandate to work in all the 15 countries within the ECOWAS region , and has so far been active in 10. Where needed, it can also provide its services beyond West Africa.
