Knowledge Management work plan 2011

Work plan

This is the knowlege management work plan for the first half of 2011, based on the outcomes of the Kigali Partners Meeting.  It will be updated and will continue to change and develop as we progress.   Items in green are completed; red means they remain to be done; orange means they are partly done.

Priorities

LenCD web site update: More attractive and user-friendly web site presenting existing content; promote and publicise the site and build traffic

Content to be moved over:

  • Home
  • Partners Meeting 2011 - done
  • LenCD Updates - Moved to "News" page along with newsfeeds from network members.  I have only placed a link  to the Google Group.  At some point we must decide whether to continue with the Google Group or move subscribers to another system for mailing -- this will depend partly on discussions about the future of the newsletter in general and coordination with capacity-net and possibly others.
  • About LenCD - done (including all "events and milestones" where some description was provided, i.e. more than just the name of the event)
  • Resource Corners - done
  • Case Window - done - all case stories copied over
  • Road to Busan HLF4 - done (perspectives notes added, home page text moved)
  • Learning Package - content moved and group ready for use
  • Learning Events - done
  • Knowledge Architecture - content moved to Knowledge Management working group and ready for use
  • Africa APDev - now that APDev has its own web site, we can just link to them
  • Links
  • Documents
  • Events & Milestones - done

Content to be added

  • Marketplace 1-pagers as foundation for organisation profiles - draft profiles have been sent to the people who submitted Marketplace 1-pagers at Kigali for review and updating

Suggestions to consider

  • Add Google Translate
Publications virtual library and announcement service: Initially link to members’ document libraries and establish custom search across web sites.  Support members in using newsfeeds to announce publications.  Longer term, consider integrated virtual library and mechanisms for peer review.

Resource corners / topic guides: Rename resource corners.  Maintain existing corners; link to similar products on members’ web sites; support groups in developing new corners.

Resource corners renamed "topics" and copied over.

KM working group linking core KM and technical staff from network members for mutual support. Online communication.
Case story virtual library: link to collections of case stories at network members’ web sites.  Long-term, perhaps expand to include newsfeeds and a linked virtual library.
LenCD Updates mailing list: Regular (monthly?) email newsletter reporting news from network members and the broader CD community
Directory of LenCD members and CD Marketplace: Presentation on LenCD web site of all member organisations, and searchable list of activities and issues.  Draft organisation profiles have been mailed to some of the people who submitted Marketplace 1-pagers at the Kigali meeting.  Others will be added.

CD Blog: Promote blog posts written by network members on their web sites.  Provide facility for blogging for members who don’t have their own space.

  • Newsfeeds set up to display CapacityDevelopment.ning.com blogs and Capacity4Dev.eu Magazine articles.
  • Blogging facility available on new web site, blogs posted.
CD discussion forum: Link to directory of communities at capacity.org, and other existing forums.  Establish forums at LenCD for working groups, possibly other topics.

Shared calendar of events, workshops, conferences, training opportunities. Initially manual announcements, long-term driven by automated newsfeeds

News feed distribution and aggregation: Support members in creating newsfeeds and aggregating them

Knowledge fairs and similar learning events: support with online resources, workspaces, publicity

  • Discussions underway with Jeff and Ozong on support to a WBI knowledge fair on CD in fragile states
Support network go betweens / connectors: Messages and news distributed among thematic / sectoral communities
